by nicolaou inmy never a jw dad tol me that my kid brother (32) is an elder.
it bothered me, i genuinely thought he was just going through the motions for the sake of his wife and our mum.. interestingly, dad was annoyed that he doesn't see so much of my brother lately and that my mum (uber jw) always makes excuses for him.. what a surprise.

Governing Body - Time in Ministry
by Peeringin inis there any transparency in how many hours on the ministry the governing body members do on the ministry?
by this i mean the physical act of going door to door in their area.
i guess it is plausible that they would count overseas trips and working on publications as part of their ministry, but this is not what they encourage from the jw on the street.. is it possible for a gb member to be reproved or otherwise for not going out in service?

VIDIOT: The disturbing image of the little girl (about 3 years old) who was enlisted to cry repeatedly for a Watchtower article photo shoot a few years ago - until they got "the" shot - definitely crossed a line in the Christian sand.
The org and the kid's parents should have been prosecuted for child abuse.

by Ding ina friend of mine recently encountered two jws at a cart.. he asked them if they were out witnessing.. they said, "no, we're not witnessing, but you can take any of the literature.".
he asked, "would you like to talk with me about jesus?".
they said, "no, just take the literature and move on.".

What is the inside info on "Reasoning From the Scriptures?"
by stillin ini understand why the witnesses won't actually "reason" from the scriptures; because they will have to come to grips with the fact that others have their own reasons, scripture-based, for believing differently than the jw's.. the "reasoning" book was supposed to arm the r&f with solid scriptural backing that could withstand most in-depth conversations.
so, why is it gathering dust now?
was there some doctrinal issue specifically?.

Just as Muslim & Jewish sects do. Every one of them has the sole truth about their religion.

by Solzhenitsyn inthat is how much coffee me and another elder went through as we camped out all night until 7 a.m. outside the home where suspected jw fornicators we're staying.
little did i know what a powerful contrast that would prove to be when as an elder i was faced with another case involving the allegation of severe child sexual abuse.
we disfellowshipped the couple based completely on circumstantial evidence of sexual wrongdoing because they simply "stayed the entire night".

On the other side of the scales - a very close friend who was an elder (with another elder) had to sit outside all night watching a house where a sister had a 'worldly' boyfriend. She stayed all night, and left early next day.
Result? Zilch, nada, nothing! The 2 elders were told to forget it because there was not enough "evidence" to proceed. Why not? The sister had family connections with prominent JW heavyweights in the area.
Some are more equal than others.

It sounds like your son can see through the cult's fear-monger tactics.
Fight "fire with fire" and share conversation-stoppers with your son - Bible teachings which reveal the cult's lies. You'll find plenty of ammunition here and at JWFACTS.
If your son begins questioning his JW relatives, they'll quickly shun him.
The org does not advocate JW's having any discussions which question their indoctrinations.
